Hurricane Irene Suspends One Tree Hill Production
One Tree Hill Production on One Tree Hill, which shoots in Wilmington, N.C., an expected target of Hurricane Irene, was shut down Friday in advance of the storm, Entertainment Weekly reports. VIDEO: Did One Tree Hill's creator shoot an alternate ending again? "As a precautionary measure and in consideration of our cast and crew, One Tree Hill production has shut down for today and tomorrow due to Hurricane Irene. We will continue to monitor the situation over the next few days," a rep for the show told EW. OTH star Austin Nichols tweeted multiple times on the storm. On Friday, he said, "Shutting down production tomorrow. Can't wait to dance with this large woman called Irene." And then on Saturday: "Good Morning Everyone. Just gonna grab a quick shower and some coffee before I head out to go looting. #HurricaneIrene," and "Irene couldn't blow out my birthday candles." CW boss on One Tree Hill's future Irene hit North Carolina Saturday morning, leaving almost 200,000 homes (many in the Wilmington area) without electricity, according to the Associated Press.

Jonah Hill Joins Stiller & Vaughn In Fox Pic
Newly svelte Jonah Hill (almost unrecognizably so) has been formally set to star alongside Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn in Neighborhood Watch, the Akiva Schaffer-directed Fox comedy. Hill will next be seen starring opposite Brad Pitt in Moneyball, which premieres next month at the Toronto Film Festival, and he stars in the David Gordon Green-directed Fox comedy The Sitter. He’ll look like a different actor in Neighborhood Watch, because you can see he has slimmed down quite a bit. He’s repped by WME.

Kevin Spacey Searches for the Next Big Thing in First Trailer for Father of Invention
If there’s one simple request I have of Kevin Spacey, it’s that he take one movie off from wearing a suit. Mix it up! Grow your hair out! Wear schlubby clothes! Don’t always be so Kevin Spacey-esque, Kevin Spacey, because it’s become a thing and we’re all tired of it. Which is why the new trailer for the indie comedy Father of Invention seems a step in the right direction. Long prison beard and an everyman’s sense of humility? Bring it on, Spaceman. Spacey stars in the indie comedy as Robert Axle, a formerly slick infomercial king who gets taken down a notch when his latest ab-cruncher/remote control gadget winds up chopping off the fingers of customers, sending him to jail. Once back out, Axle’s must rebuild his life from the ground up, working at a big box store for minimum wage and reconnecting with his grown daughter (Camilla Belle). The official synopsis: Millionaire infomercial guru, Robert Axle (Kevin Spacey) loses everything when one of his inventions has a design flaw that accidentally chops off the fingers of thousands of customers. After serving eight years in prison, a disgraced Axle is released, and ready to redeem his name and rebuild his empire with a new innovation. However, Axle’s ex-wife (Virginia Madsen) has spent all of his money and moved into his house with her new husband (Craig Robinson). Out of desperation, he finds a part-time job as a janitor, and is forced to move in with his estranged daughter (Camilla Belle) and her over-protective roommates. Despite these setbacks he is determined to pitch his newest gadget and rebuild his infomercial empire. But the world has changed in the last decade, and Axle finds himself out of step with current technology, his family, and the self-confidence that made him king of the infomercials in the past. With all his wheels spinning, Axle soon realizes before he can be successful with his new creation, first he must reinvent himself. Yes, it’s all so damn quirky-seeming, in an age when the q word is enough to prompt instantaneous eye-rolling no matter the premise. The font on the poster? Straight outta the post-Juno school of Indie Marketing 101. Director Trent Cooper’s last movie? Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector. The last time Spacey played a sympathetic character? Feels like ages ago. Needless to say, there are a lot of hurdles for Father of Invention to overcome, but the cast seems to pull it off with decent aplomb judging from the trailer. And besides: The plot is basically The Beaver minus the crippling manic-depression, the puppet, and Mel Gibson. A winner already? Verdict: In infomercial terms, not Nads-level bad. Not Shake Weight-level brilliant. (But then, what is?) Father of Invention will be released theatrically by Anchor Bay on October 14.

Noble to direct 'Speech'
Brit helmer Adrian Noble has been tapped to direct the developing stage version of "The King's Speech." Producer Michael Alden, working with casting director Gabrielle Dawes, has not yet locked in a cast for the nine-actor legit incarnation of the story about King George VI and his speech therapist. According to the producer, a tentative production plan would see the show begin life in the U.K., first with a preem outside of London or possibly with a regional U.K. tour prior to landing on the West End. Broadway would follow. No timeline has been set, Alden added, and no venues have yet been confirmed. He hopes to launch the show in the U.K. in early 2012, with the play potentially securing a Main Stem berth for the fall of that year. David Seidler, who won an Oscar for his "King's Speech" screenplay, also penned the play, which he wrote prior to writing the movie. The stage production is moving ahead with that original script, although Alden didn't rule out the possibility of incorporating changes based on details that have since emerged regarding the historical events depicted in the story. Broadway credits for Noble, a former a.d. of the Royal Shakespeare Company, include "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." Alden said it was unlikely that any of stars of the film, including Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, would reprise their roles for the stage incarnation. Contact Gordon Cox at gordon.cox@variety.com

VIDEO: Alec Baldwin Puts John Krasinski in a Yankees Bikini for New Era
Throughout the baseball season New Era has released some fairly hilarious commercials-cum-viral videos featuring Alec Baldwin and John Krasinski and the increasing stakes of their Yankees/Red Sox fan rivalry. The third spot has come online just in time for the latest on-field Yanks/Sox tangle — the teams meet for three games in Boston this weekend — and while it isn’t as funny as the previous two, it does feature Krasinski in a Yankees bikini. Photoshopped, but hey: still comedy! Baldwin’s cackle, FTW. [via SplitSider]

Great Movie Apes: Amy from Congo
Rumor has it that this week the apes will rise. So in honor of our primate cousins and their varied achievements on film, Movieline will honor one great movie ape/monkey/chimp each day who embodies an admirable quality found in monkeykind. Today we honor Amy, the talking, tickling, martini-drinking gorilla in 1995’s Michael Crichton adaptation Congo. She is a domesticated ape who can call herself pretty…and lead you across continents to a lost city and diamond mine. Name: Amy (voiced by Misty Rosas, Lorene Noh and Shayna Fox) Film: Congo Great Ape Quality: Can speak…with the help of a sign language-activated backpack that translates her motions into a creepy digitized voice. While critics may not have loved this 1995 action flick from Frank Marshall, no one could pan Amy, the sweet Mountain gorilla (actually a fictional species) who was domesticated and taught to sign by a young primatologist played by Dylan Walsh. After Amy started having nightmares and drawing the same eerie eye surrounded by trees, Peter found funding to take Amy back home. Unfortunately, the funding came from a greedy philanthropist (Tim Curry) convinced that Amy could lead him to the lost city of Zinj, full of mythical diamonds. And that she did (after a prozac and martini to sooth her flying nerves), only the city was also full of violent gray gorillas who did not share her perspectives on humans and pink backpacks. Have no fear though, Amy the lovable gorilla saved the day for a few of her crew members and and successfully (we hope) readjusted to life in the wild.
